1) What is the difference between a String Quartet, String Trio and Duo?
Typically, a String Quartet consists of 2 violins, 1 viola and 1 cello, a String Trio consists of 2 violin and 1 cello, or 1 violin, 1 viola, & 1 cello a String Duo consists of 2 violins.
2) How many musicians do I need?
The size of the group depends mostly on your personal preferences, as well as financial considerations. A String Quartet or String Trio is appropriate for most weddings. The Quartet will give you the fullest sound and has the most repertoire. If you are having a small wedding of under 40 guests, a String Duo may be perfect.
3) What do you require to perform?
We require only 4 upright chairs without arms in an area ideally about 8 by 8 feet. If that is not quite possible, don't worry, we have squeezed into some tight places on occasion.
4) How do Blue Moon Occasions musicians dress?
The dress code for all Blue Moon Occasions musicians is normally formal: men in tuxedos,
women in black. For less formal occasions, we wear dark suits or dresses.
5) Is music played before the wedding ceremony?
Music before the ceremony gets your guests ready for the main event. The musicians arrive and are fully set up at least 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. We begin to play when the first guests are seated and continue playing until the start of ceremony.
6) What about music for the recessional?
Music for the recessional is generally lively and upbeat. A single selection is played for the entire wedding party. Then different music is played while the guests depart.
7) Do you play for receptions also?
Yes. We often play during the cocktail hour and/or during dinner.
8) Can Blue Moon Occasions play outdoors?
Yes, we do. Our main concerns are the safety of our instruments and being able to perform well.
We must be in the shade and there cannot be any precipitation.
9) We have a special song we’d like to have played. Can Blue Moon Occasions do that?
We are always happy to play special songs. If it's not in our repertoire, or even available for string quartet, we can write an arrangement for the ensemble you've chosen. A special fee applies, and in all cases needs to be addressed on an individual basis. Just ask us!
10) How far in advance should we book Blue Moon Occasions?
We encourage you to book as early as possible. Don't hesitate to call on short notice however. We have often been able to accommodate even very late bookings because of a previous cancellation.
